James L. Esposito has over thirteen years of experience in local property tax appeals, beginning with his clerkship for the Presiding Judge of the New Jersey Tax Court. Jim has served as Lead Counsel to municipalities and property owners throughout the State in appeals of mixed-use commercial properties, casinos, pharmaceutical/research & development complexes, hotels/motels, office buildings, manufacturing facilities and warehouses.
Mr. Esposito handles all aspects of litigation involving appeals of special-purpose manufacturing facilities, warehouses, apartment complexes and condominiums. Jim advises public and private clients on issues regarding tax exempt properties used for religious, educational, charitable and hospital purposes. Jim has also assisted clients on applications for farmland assessment, farmland roll-back taxes, payments in lieu of taxation and tax sale certificates.
Mr. Esposito counsels various government entities on eminent domain matters and represents municipal and county clients in all phases of eminent domain for public roadway projects.
Jim was a Partner with a large multi-practice Law Firm prior to becoming a Managing Member of Spiotti & Esposito, P.C. From 2001 through 2004, Mr. Esposito proudly served as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey. During his tenure with the Attorney General’s Office, Jim represented such state agencies as the Division of Taxation, the Department of Labor and the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.
Mr. Esposito has been a guest speaker for CLE International’s Eminent Domain Conference as well as the New Jersey State Bar Association on Current Developments in Local Property Tax. In 2012, Mr. Esposito received high marks as a guest speaker at the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Annual Conference.
Jim also volunteers his time to charitable causes for children and military veterans. Mr. Esposito is a New Jersey native and lifetime resident.
